Best 2010 golf wedges

Golf tips by Donald K.. Burleson

March 2010

The 2010 best wedges are easy to spot, the trick is finding the best wedge for you!

I have other notes on the 2010 best putters and choosing the right driver for you, but far and away, the real trial test applies to choosing the best 2010 pitching wedge.

I like stores such as Golf World with full indoor driving ranges and hundreds of sample clubs to test drive.  They also have a chipping/pitching area to test for the best pitching wedge in 2010.

A few things to keep in-mind with the top 2010 wedges::

- 2010 groove rules:  The new USGA 2010 pitching wedge groove rules are now available for some wedges like the new Callaway.  You can still get square grooved wedges in the Vintage wedge area.

- Laser milled wedge grooves:   Super square grooves create massive backspin, but gone are the days when you self sharpen your grooves with a tool.  Todays laser edged surfaces are not meant to be messed with.

As you can see, self sharpening is no longer an option for many of the 2010 wedges:

- The best wedge is the one that you hit best:  There is no shortcut, only trials and re-trial testing will reveal the best wedge for you!

As a mid-handicapper, I found the following clubs on my short list of wedges:

Callaway Diablo Forged wedge - I chose this for my 48 degree wedge.  The craftsmanship is apparent and the feel is perfect for me:

Ping Tour-W wedge - This one surprised me, and I was not expecting to find that I hit best with a cast wedge.  But the test range does not lie, and I hot consistently good shots with this wedge, and went with it for my 52 degree pitching wedge.
